Airline Carry-On Sizer

One set of measurements, every airline’s published box. Enter the exterior size with wheels and handles included — that is what the gate sizer measures.

Affiliate disclosure: the pick links below go through our tracked partner links; we may earn a commission at no cost to you. Verdicts are computed from each airline’s published limit and never from what we sell.

How the verdict is computed

Your three dimensions and each airline’s three published limits are sorted largest-to-smallest and compared side by side, so orientation never causes a false negative. FITS means every side clears the carry-on box on the airline’s standard fare (linear-inch and weight caps included where the airline publishes one); BORDERLINE means under half an inch to spare on a side; PERSONAL ITEM ONLY means it clears only the under-seat box; NO means neither. Airlines currently covered: United, Delta, American, Southwest, JetBlue, Alaska, Frontier, Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways, Lufthansa.

FAQ

Why measure with the wheels and handles included?
Because the gate sizer does. A “22-inch” carry-on is a marketing label for the case body; with wheels and the retracted handle housing it is often 23 to 23.5 inches tall, and that inch is the difference between the overhead bin and a gate-check tag.
What does BORDERLINE mean?
Your bag fits the published box with less than half an inch to spare on at least one side. Most gate agents will let it through; a strict sizer bin may not. Soft-sided bags usually squeeze, hard shells do not.
Are these limits guaranteed to be current?
No. Every row carries the airline’s own baggage page and the date we last checked it. Limits change by airline, fare and aircraft; verify your airline’s page before you fly. This tool is decision support, not a boarding guarantee.
