Do TSA Locks Actually Work on a Checked Bag? Read What the Certifier Publishes

An approved lock reliably survives an inspection that would destroy an unapproved one. Beyond that, nobody publishes a strength standard - and Travel Sentry's own help pages say a determined thief gets in, and that every code from 000 to 999 can be tried in half an hour.

Checked Luggage for a Cruise: The Line's Rule Is Not the Airline's

Carnival caps a bag lying flat at 16 by 24 inches and says the length is not a factor. Norwegian publishes a count and a weight. Royal Caribbean publishes nothing. None of it governs the flight to the port, which is where the fees actually are.

Best Checked Luggage Under $200: Three Picks, Held to Their Own Numbers

Three checked bags under $200, read against what their makers actually publish. One prints both its linear-inch totals; two publish two sets of dimensions that disagree on the same page. Plus the warranty terms — ten years, one year, and a lifetime tier with a 120-day clock.

25-Inch vs 28-Inch Checked Luggage: Which Size to Buy

One maker publishes case dimensions, exterior dimensions and its own linear-inch totals for both sizes. The medium comes to 57 linear inches; the large comes to 65 against a 62-inch ceiling, on a page that calls it compliant. Read September 2026.

Checked Baggage on International Flights: The Allowance Is a Grid, Not a Number

Qantas and Air Canada both cap a checked piece at 158cm and 32kg, but neither publishes your allowance as a sentence - it is a grid of unlabelled cells, or a calculator that wants your ticket. What that means for the case you buy.

Luggage Gifts for Someone Who Checks a Bag: Four Picks, Priced From the Maker's Page

Four gifts for a checked-bag traveller, each one priced and specified from the maker's own page - plus the one item we would not hand over without a caveat, because its spec sheet says something different from its marketing.

Kids' Checked Luggage: A Child's Bag Is a Whole Allowance, Not a Small One

A child's suitcase is measured and charged exactly like an adult's, and on several carriers the allowance itself is only returned by a calculator. What the published kids' cases actually hold, and why dividing one checked bag usually beats adding a fourth.

Is Premium Checked Luggage Worth It? The Premium Is Paid Twice

At checked size the expensive case is often the heavier one and the smaller one, and empty weight is allowance you spend before packing. Three price points, three unrelated warranty answers, and the one maker that publishes a tolerance on its own measurements.

Best Packing Cubes for a Checked Bag: Three Tiers, Priced

Standard cubes, compression cubes and a vacuum compression bag are three different tools. Ranked by the space claim each maker is willing to publish, with the dimensions, prices and the weight limits that cap what any of them can do, read September 2026.

Luggage Scales for a Checked Bag: The 0.1 lb on the Box Is Not an Accuracy

One maker publishes an increment of 0.1 lb on one scale and a stated accuracy of plus or minus 0.8 lb on another. Against overweight bands that start at the forty-first pound on one US carrier, that gap is the whole article.

The Best Checked Luggage Set for a Family: Read the Pieces, Not the Piece Count

Which set to buy, decided on published per-piece dimensions and empty weights. The finding that matters: the 28-inch bundled into a three-piece set is not the 28-inch the same maker sells on its own, and nothing on either page says so.

What a Luggage Warranty Actually Covers, and Where Airline Damage Really Goes

A maker's warranty covers wheels, zippers and handles but excludes transit damage. The carrier's contract handles transit but excludes damage to handles, straps, wheels and zippers. The most common checked-bag failure falls in the gap, and here is what each document actually says.

Listed vs Exterior Checked-Bag Dimensions: The Inches the Tag Leaves Out

A checked suitcase has two published heights and the airline counts the bigger one. What case dimensions and exterior dimensions mean, which carriers say wheels and handles count, and a product page that prints 65 linear inches against a 62-inch limit and calls it compliant.

Luggage Tags for a Checked Bag: The Airline Requires One and Names What Goes On It

Southwest's contract requires a tag carrying your name, address and telephone number. The code-based ID systems are built so none of those ever appear on the bag. Both are published, they conflict, and here is how to carry both layers.

Toddler Ride-On Suitcases: Two Makers, Two Weight Limits, Three Times Apart

Trunki publishes a maximum ride-on weight of 50kg. Mountain Buggy publishes a maximum load of 15kg and says it is the weight of the child. Their age ranges do not overlap either, and one page publishes two different sizes for the same case.

Compression vs Standard Packing Cubes: Cube Against Cube

Compression cubes against standard cubes — both fabric boxes, one extra zipper. Compared on Bagail's own published dimensions, prices and space claims, and against the graduated overweight fees Southwest, Frontier and American published in September 2026.

How to Avoid an Overweight Checked-Bag Fee (The Limit Is Not Always 50 lb)

Southwest publishes 50 pounds, Frontier lists under 40, and American publishes graduated bands rather than a cap. What the overweight fee actually costs, what your empty case has already spent, and when a shipping quote beats the penalty.

TSA-Approved Locks for a Checked Bag: Which to Buy, and What the Spec Sheet Leaves Out

Which approved lock to put on a checked bag, decided on the only things makers actually publish: format, body material and how it attaches. Not one publishes a strength figure, and TSA says conveyor belts take more locks than screeners do.

Luggage Set vs Buying Checked Bags Separately: Check Whether the Set Is the Singles

On one line the set really is the two singles at a discount. On another, the crossed-out reference price is anchored to a case the set does not contain.

Packing Cubes vs Compression Bags: A Box Against a Valve

Packing cubes against compression bags, not against compression cubes. A zipped fabric box versus a valve-sealed sack, compared on Bagail's own published dimensions, prices, space claims and wrinkle warnings, against airline checked weight limits.

Luggage Warranties Compared: What the Guarantee Page Says That the Product Page Does Not

Five brands' actual guarantee documents, read against the marketing line on their own product pages. Away's two pages disagree about post-five-year repair fees, LEVEL8's warranty page and its Atlas listing have swapped positions, and Travelpro's tier depends on where you bought the bag.

Listed vs. Overall Carry-On Dimensions: Why Your "22x14x9" Bag Doesn't Fit

Luggage brands often headline the body-only case size; airlines measure the whole bag, wheels and handle included. Here's how to read a spec sheet, measure your own bag like a gate sizer, and avoid a surprise fee.

Carry-On Suitcase vs Travel Backpack for One Week: Which Actually Fits

A bag is carry-on sized only if its exterior clears the airline box. Four bags with published exterior dimensions, from a 22 x 14 x 8 in travel backpack to a spinner that measures 23.5 in once you count the wheels.
